Unexpected

So blessed by my GrabCar driver today -- reminds me that God can work through anyone, often through the people we least expect. Long story short, a man I had completely written off (i.e. thought to have nothing in common with me) challenged me to read more of God's Word daily.

Driver: Do you read the Bible?
Me: Yea I do. I try to read everyday, at least a few verses.
Driver: You should read more! Read 5 chapters a day; then you can finish the Bible in one year.
Me: I know I should! It's difficult to commit to it daily though. But I do try. Have you read through?
Driver: 8 times. It is not by our own strength, it comes from God.

Deep down, I know that I should really read more, spend more time thinking about His word, journalling, praying etc. I told him I felt challenged to do so and he said he was happy to hear it.

Tamil Christian songs were playing in His car; he explained that the lyrics talked about how even though we go through hard times and "fire", God will bring us through, just like that verse in Isaiah says. I think it is Isaiah 43:2.

He shared that he only came to know Christ during university days in India, and initially he only accepted the idea that Christ is God, among other gods. When he came to Singapore, he struggled to find a job and to survive day to day - that was when he relied on God, and realised that there truly is only one way, one God. Now, he attends church with his family every Sunday faithfully. There is a sense of assurance and security as he told of his story, and I, as I listened, beamed in the backseat. It was a joyful 15 minutes, and I felt thankful I decided to take a Grab instead of the train tonight.
